GENIE 英会話English and Japanese are REALLY different languages. But the way human beings think is not so different from culture to culture, I think. Instinctively we are all bascially the same. 本能的には人間はみんな一緒だと思います。 So we have some adages? proverbs? sayings? (諺) which are remarkably similar. Here are some interesting examples….
「郷に入っては郷に従え」は・・・
“When in Rome, do as the Romans.”
「隣の芝生は青く見える」は・・・
“The grass is always greener on the other side.”
And…this one is interesting, too….
「一石二鳥」は・・・
“Kill two birds with one stone.”
