Hi everybody!  Let`s talk about time.  Here are two easy time expressions…

The clock is slow.     (時計が遅れている。)

The clock is fast.     (時計が進んでいる。)

Well, that`s all for today and that`s all for this week.  It`s Saturday and the clock says it`s 7:35 so it`s time to go!  And the Vegas Room clock is 5 mintues  slow so it`s actually about 7:40.　　(ベガスルームの時計が５分遅れてますってこと！)

Hi everybody!　You probably know expressions like “watch TV”…“watch a movie”…or “watch a game” but how about these??↓↓

Watch out!  (気を付けろ！)

Watch your head.  (頭をぶつけないないようにね)

Please watch your step.  (足元にご注意下さい。)

Of course “watch” means 「見る」 but sometimes “watch” also means 「注意する」。  Here is one more:

I’m watching my weight.    (太らないようにしてる。)

この間「私は朝が苦手だから、let’s Enjoy English at Genie together soon, not early, okay?」って言ったんですね？ Well, how do you say,“苦手”in English?  There are two ways…

① When you want to say,“私は something-something が苦手”and that something is a skill (お勉強や練習で上手くなれることだったら) you can say…

I’m not good at 名詞/動名詞。 For example…

I’m not good at math.
I’m not good at ping pong. (私は卓球が苦手です。)
I’m not good at drawing. (私は絵を描くことが下手。)

Many students are good at using this form↑↑  しかし！ 何々が苦手って言おうとする時はお勉強や練習で上手くなれないことだったら“I’m not good at 何々”って言わないんですよ！ これは生徒さんがよく間違えるところです。So what should you say? It’s very easy! Just say…

② I don’t like 何々。

と言うことで！ 「私は朝が苦手です」って ① と ② の中ではどちらのほうが良いのでしょうか？ 答えは、もちろん、“I don’t like mornings”ですね(^_^)v

Here are some more examples…
I don’t like spicy food. (私は辛いものが苦手。)

I don’t like jealous guys. (私はやきもちやきの男性が苦手。)

I don’t like flying. (飛行機苦手。)

「早く会いたい」 has two very different translations in English…

① I wanna meet you soon. (会いたい気持ちがいっぱいで近いうちに会いたいという意味です。)

② I wanna meet you early. (時間的に早く会いたいという意味です。)

rain rain rain… A big typhoon is headed this way.

ところで、よく”typhoon”と”hurricane”の違いは何？と聞かれますが、

実は地域によって言い方が違うだけなんですよ。

日本やアジアでは”typhoon,” アメリカでは”hurricane,” 他の地域では”cyclone”と呼ばれています。 

For today, let’s look at some rain　 expressions.
(           )を埋めてください。

 ①雨が降っています。　　It’s (           ).　　　　

 ②すごい雨だね。         (           ) a rain!

③雨にふられちゃったよ。 I got (           ) in the rain.

④雨がやんだ。            The rain (           ) (      ).  

⑤通り雨だから、すぐやむよ。   It’s a (           ) so it’ll (           ) (      ) soon.

⑥小降りになったから、今のうちに行きましょう。 It’s (           ) so let’s go now.

Let’s look at the answers!

 ①It’s (raining).

      It’s rain と言わないように。「今」降っているので”～ing”ですね。

 ②(What) a rain!

   「すごい～だね」は”What a ～”を使いますよ。

　     What a view!  すごい景色だね。

　     What a coincidence!  すごい偶然だね。

③ I got (caught) in the rain.

　　雨に「捕まる」イメージですね。

 ④ The rain (let) (up).

　　日本語でも「雨が上がる」と言いますね。”up”を使います。

 ⑤ It’s a (shower) so it’ll (let) (up) soon.

　　「バーッ」と降る感じがシャワーに近いですね。

 ⑥ It’s (sprinkling) so let’s go now.

　　他に霧雨で”drizzling”もありますよ。
